My visit with Bill Brady, Candidate for Governor

Yesterday, I told you about the great speech given by Michael Medved at the New Trier Dinneree. There is so much more that happened at the event that I'd like to tell you.

Each year, at this event, you can find many political hopefuls and political has-beens. This year was no exception. It is a perfect storm for a political junkie, such as Mom. Tables were set up with many, many petitions to sign, each with a different candidate. My hubby tells me that you must only sign one for each office. (Well, I guess that is sorta obvious, but with attractive young people waving papers at you for signatures, it can get confusing.) The first candidate to stop me was Bob Schillerstrom, candidate for Governor. He was charming and, may I say, disarmingly honest. I told him before I sign I must know about him. I was looking for a very conservative person to vote for, at least in the primary. As you know, from yesterday's post, I will support the Republican in the general, whoever he may be, but I really want to start out conservative. Mr. "Bob" Schillerstrom told me right off that he was a moderate. No spinning or trying to convince me otherwise. I thanked him for his honesty. I won't be voting his way in the primary, but I do appreciated such straight-forwardness.

I did get to speak with Bill Brady, however, and here I think will rest my vote and whole-hearted endorsement. This gentlemen was happy to speak with Mom about my concerns. He is not your typical Chicago pol, but most certainly has a strong grasp of what it means to be a politician in this rough and tumble city. He is the leading voice in the Senate for efforts to create a business climate that will attract hundreds of thousands of new jobs to the state. I cannot see him weakening in the face of opposition. The thing I believe is most essential to any Governor of Illinois is, how do they feel about business? See, I am very pro-business. No, I don't own one, I just have never gotten a job from someone who didn't. I am originally from Milwaukee and have seen first hand what an anti-business platform can do. On a humorous note, my husband was eating dinner when I decided this candidate needed meeting, so he told me to go look for myself. Hummph, I will! So I wandered around with brochure in hand, trying to match faces and read name tags. Finally, I asked Tony Peraica to introduce me, which he did graciously. When I, later, asked my husband, how he thought I found Mr. Brady, my husband smirked, "You looked for the best looking guy in the room." (No, sweetie, that would only lead me to you.)

However, Mr. Brady is nice looking and that never hurts now, does it?
