My visit with Bill Brady, Candidate for Governor

Yesterday, I told you about the great speech given by Michael Medved at the New Trier Dinneree. There is so much more that happened at the event that I'd like to tell you.

Each year, at this event, you can find many political hopefuls and political has-beens. This year was no exception. It is a perfect storm for a political junkie, such as Mom. Tables were set up with many, many petitions to sign, each with a different candidate. My hubby tells me that you must only sign one for each office. (Well, I guess that is sorta obvious, but with attractive young people waving papers at you for signatures, it can get confusing.) The first candidate to stop me was Bob Schillerstrom, candidate for Governor. He was charming and, may I say, disarmingly honest. I told him before I sign I must know about him. I was looking for a very conservative person to vote for, at least in the primary. As you know, from yesterday's post, I will support the Republican in the general, whoever he may be, but I really want to start out conservative. Mr. "Bob" Schillerstrom told me right off that he was a moderate. No spinning or trying to convince me otherwise. I thanked him for his honesty. I won't be voting his way in the primary, but I do appreciated such straight-forwardness.

I did get to speak with Bill Brady, however, and here I think will rest my vote and whole-hearted endorsement. This gentlemen was happy to speak with Mom about my concerns. He is not your typical Chicago pol, but most certainly has a strong grasp of what it means to be a politician in this rough and tumble city. He is the leading voice in the Senate for efforts to create a business climate that will attract hundreds of thousands of new jobs to the state. I cannot see him weakening in the face of opposition. The thing I believe is most essential to any Governor of Illinois is, how do they feel about business? See, I am very pro-business. No, I don't own one, I just have never gotten a job from someone who didn't. I am originally from Milwaukee and have seen first hand what an anti-business platform can do. Mr. Brady shares my views and will actively work to bring new opportunities to our fair state. I encourage my lovely readers to check out his site at http://www.bradyforillinois.com/

On a humorous note, my husband was eating dinner when I decided this candidate needed meeting, so he told me to go look for myself. Hummph, I will! So I wandered around with brochure in hand, trying to match faces and read name tags. Finally, I asked Tony Peraica to introduce me, which he did graciously. When I, later, asked my husband, how he thought I found Mr. Brady, my husband smirked, "You looked for the best looking guy in the room." (No, sweetie, that would only lead me to you.)

However, Mr. Brady is nice looking and that never hurts now, does it?

A delightful evening with Michael Medved, Bill Brady and others.

Well, everyone, Mom was invited to the annual New Trier Dinneree once again and, as opposed to last year, this year was marvelous! If you check my post from last year, you will see the speaker was Mort Kondrake and he could not have been more of a downer. This year, we were fortunate enough to hear Michael Medved, of the famed radio show and in years past, the show Sneak Previews. (I am old enough to remember enjoying that program.)

Mr. Medved was as uplifting in his speech as Mr. Kondrake was depressing. He spoke of three of the Ten Big Lies About America. Specifically, that third parties are not and never will be the answer, that multi-culturalism is NOT what makes this country great and that we conservatives must support even the moderate base of our party, especially once they are running in elections.

I must admit, that last one threw me a bit. I do tend to support our moderate candidates, but I sure don't do it happily. My personal belief is that the Republican party would do better to nominate more conservatives and then work to explain why the conservative candidate is the better choice for all of us. I think the most work needs to be done in this area. We just can't seem to get the message out there. Mr. Medved is very good at this and he is a valuable voice for our party. I did end up agreeing with him on this subject by the end of the speech. I mean, really, do we really want more voices for Obama? Or do we want people in office who, perhaps, just hold slightly different views from ours, but generally, are in agreement? Mr. Medved quoted Reagan as saying,

"If you agree with me 70% of the time, you are not my enemy, you are my ally."

That struck me as being very true, but I guess I never really thought about it that way.

Tomorrow, I will tell you about my visit with Mr. Bill Brady, candidate for Governor of Illinois. I was pleased with his approach and will support him in the elections. I think you will too!!!

Indoctr-obama-nation

If you are not living on this planet or perhaps only watch network news, you have possibly not seen these videos of kindergardeners singing praises to Obama. Please check out this site. http://www.prisonplanet.com/barack-as-christ-obama-worship-song-adapted-from-jesus-loves-the-little-children.html

How can anyone not find this disturbing? To all my liberal readers out there...This kind of thing is why so many parents were upset when Obama wanted to speak to the school kids on live programming. I understand many of you love the president, so let me explain it to you this way. Just replace the song lyrics "Barack Hussein Obama" with "George W. Bush" and you will finally understand.

Maybe.

The Real Witch-hunters

Clarence Page in the Barack Tribune today, writes a column that asks if the "witch-hunters" have forced Van Jones out of office? Mr. Page blames the Evil Glenn Beck and his smear campaign showing Van Jones as a radical Communist. You can sense that Clarence Page wants to say Van Jones has been Borked, but...well, that opens up a whole new can of worms. See, it is not logical to say Mr. Jones "dabbled" in communism in his youth, when, only a few years ago, he was taped spouting such nonsense.

Aaron Klein reports that Jones himself stated in a 2005 interview his environmental activism was a means to fight for racial and class “justice,” and that he was a “rowdy black nationalist,” and a “communist.”

Saying that something had been done in your youth, four years prior, only works for the under 12 set. Besides, according to liberals that is no excuse. It wasn't for Douglas Ginsberg, when his "youthful indiscretions" came to light. Let us not forget the fuss raised by the left about Justice Alito's membership in C.A.P....in 1985. He was a student...I think that qualifies as your youth. The left, however, did not want to let it go. It was harped on over and over. Oh, but about Teddy and that girl...well, who remembers anyway?

Finally, blaming Glenn Beck for Van Jones' losing his job is simply ridiculous. Glenn Beck played the statements Van Jones made for everyone to see, not just the A**hole statement, but all of them. Quite honestly, I was not surprised by the name-calling. Really, as if I don't call the left similar names, but I was disturbed by the extreme left wing views of Mr. Jones and judging by the outcry of the people, so were all of you.

Glenn Beck just did what the media used to do years ago. Investigate, and then report on it. Too bad, Mr. Page, you lost the scoop. Guess you were too busy worshipping at the alter of Obama. You snooze, you lose. And lose, indeed. Glenn Beck's viewership far outnumbers the meager readers of your column.

Try some real reporting next time...it may help.

The Government Diet Program

Today begins the new taxes on junk food. You probably didn't hear too much about it, but it goes like this. Candy and Soft drinks will now be taxed at the regular merchandise rate, instead of the food tax of approx. 2.5%. Wonderful! Now that the Government nanny is watching out for us, all will be well. We will become skinny, peaceful, happy and blonde, just like the Eloi in the classic film Time Machine. Everything will be provided for us and we will die happily by...wait a minute, didn't the Eloi get eaten by the Morlocks, who did the providing? Oh well...that's just Science Fiction. Still, there are some unintended consequences, or many intended.

I don't think many people will give up their snacks. When I told my husband that he should cut out his Diet Coke addiction, he looked at me as though I just told him I voted Democrat. He told me that that was never gonna happen and what do I know, I drink coffee. I nodded silently, a chill settling on me, as I thought how I'd react if told I should quit drinking coffee. When taxes were raised on cigarettes, it didn't lessen the amount of smokers, just brought more income into the government....Ah-ha!

Getting more money to the government and less to you is the whole idea. You will still buy your favorite snackies, but you will be the poorer for doing it. You may have to protest that your healthcare is too expensive or request that the government do other things for you that you should do for yourself. I believe that therein lies the truth.

Do you think the elites in Washington really care if you have a bit of junk in the trunk? Nope, they just desperately need new ways to take your money. Oh, hell, they are gonna get it too. We are not giving up our Diet Coke.

And besides, Halloween is going to be really depressing this year, what with everyone passing out celery sticks.

And we're called heartless?

As you probably already know, I am not a fan of Ted Kennedy. That being said, I am still sorry for his family. Having recently lost my father, I can understand the pain that comes with such a loss. However, I do not feel it warrants the non-stop coverage it is getting.

I do understand why it is getting at least some of the attention. Already, the liberal left has been floating ideas, such as calling the government takeover of our healthcare, (I'm not supposed to call it that, but I like to live dangerously!), The Teddy Kennedy Healthcare Plan. To paraphrase Rahm Emanuel, the Democrats are not ones to let a death go to waste. If you think I am being harsh, please let us not forget Paul Wellstone's disgraceful memorial service. Recall the political rally it turned out to be? Now this, "Let's pass healthcare for our dear Teddy, who impacted so many lives." (Yeah, I can think of one.)

See, the left sees us as moronic sheep, children to be sheltered and to be honest, some of you act that way. You don't want to be responsible. You dress like high schoolers, job hop and cannot seem to commit to a lasting relationship, even when children are involved. All in the name of that fleeting thing, "Happiness." The left thinks that if your thoughts jump around so erratically, you will probably forget why you don't want socialized medicine, (there I go again!), and go along with the passage of the bill for Camelot's sake.

Oh, how pitiful of the left for trying that. Oh, how terrifying if it works.

Et tu, Wal-mart?

Remember back in Junior High? The popular kids would ask the less than popular kids to do something for them, perhaps, loan money, copy notes, trip another kid in the hall...anything, just to see if they'd get them to do it. Invariably, some poor kid would comply, hoping against hope, to be included in the cool kids clique the next day. Of course, you all know what happened. The kid got in trouble with those in charge for the infraction and the next day was the butt of all the cool kids. Hell, I've seen it, I've even been on both sides of the equation. We all grow up eventually and learn better behavior.

Or do we?

Wal-mart, one of many others, (list to follow) will be pulling their ads from Glenn Beck's show. I happen to love that show and so do many of you. He seems to be the only guy on TV asking the really tough questions and he is disgusted by just as many Republicans as he is, those on the left. He incurred the anger of many by stating the following of the Dear Leader:

"This president, I think, has exposed himself as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture, I don't know what it is,'' Beck said on FOX & Friends last month "I'm not saying that he doesn't like white people. I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist.''

Okay, considering his former church affiliation and the dreadful things his pastor has said from the pulpit, is it far fetched to believe the above statement? Is stating the obvious now a hate crime? Oh, I forgot, only WHITE people are racists. So Glenn Beck must be slandering the Dear Leader.

Look, Wal-mart, the cool kids are never going to like you. Your silly boycott of Glenn Beck will just cause loyal customers, who in the past have ignored the boycotts against you by same "cool" kids, to leave in droves. My husband, for one, shops at Wal-mart at least once a week. Or should I say shopped. He wrote a letter to the corporate office stating that he will find somewhere else to spend his money. Does anyone think that all of a sudden, the left will embrace Wal-mart and say, "Oh, yes, build in our inner cities and supply everyone with jobs and cheap goods?" Ha! Let's not hold our breath.

Here is the list of other companies boycotting Glenn Beck. Let us show them where the money is!
